One Dead, Five Injured After Jet Crashes Onto Texas Highway.

A small business jet carrying six people crashed onto a highway in Texas on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and five others injured, authorities said.

The NetsJet-operated Cessna Citation Latitude had departed from San José del Cabo, Mexico, en route to Austin, Texas, before diverting toward Laredo earlier in the day, June 16. According to officials, the aircraft lost contact with air traffic control shortly before it went down approximately three miles from Laredo International Airport.

Investigators believe the plane may have experienced a mechanical failure before crashing onto the roadway. The jet struck a moving vehicle and broke apart upon impact, leaving wreckage scattered across the highway. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft engulfed in flames and lying overturned in two pieces.

Bystanders rushed to assist at the scene, with footage showing individuals using a sledgehammer and shovel to break through the cockpit glass and open a door to reach those trapped inside.

“It looked like part of a movie. I was in shock,” said witness Zayra Garza, who arrived shortly after the crash, in comments to KARK. She described seeing several passengers, including individuals who appeared to be teenagers, exiting the wreckage along with someone believed to be the pilot.

Laredo police confirmed that one person died in the crash and five others were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. “Regrettably and tragically, there is one deceased involved in this crash,” said Laredo Police Public Information Officer Jose Baeza in a statement to CNN.

Authorities also reported that five responding police officers were taken to hospital after sustaining injuries during rescue efforts at the scene. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
