Victor Osimhen has spoken about his disappointment over Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the situation has been painful for him and other members of the Super Eagles.
Nigeria’s national team missed out on the expanded 48-team tournament after finishing second in their qualification group.
Their campaign eventually ended in the African playoffs, where they were eliminated by DR Congo.
The setback means Nigeria will not feature at the World Cup for the second consecutive time, extending their absence from football’s biggest stage since 2018.
The 2026 tournament, officially the FIFA World Cup 2026, began last week and includes teams from across the world, with Africa securing multiple qualification slots.
Osimhen, speaking during a social media livestream, said the missed opportunity is difficult for the squad, noting that they have now failed to reach the tournament twice in a row.
He added that despite the disappointment, the team must move forward and focus on future competitions.
