PDP Accuses INEC Of Acting Like APC Extension.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of losing its independence and allegedly operating in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement shared on its official X handle, the opposition party claimed that recent actions and decisions by INEC have created doubt about its neutrality and ability to conduct free and fair elections.

The PDP alleged that issues such as selective compliance with court rulings and concerns around the transparency of electronic transmission systems have weakened public trust in the electoral body.

It further claimed that the commission, under the leadership of Professor Joash Amupitan, is increasingly seen as favouring the APC, a situation it said could undermine confidence in the democratic process.

According to the party, the decline in public confidence in the electoral umpire has reached an alarming level, warning that democracy depends on citizens believing their votes can truly influence political outcomes.

The opposition party added that an independent electoral commission remains essential for credible elections, insisting that the current perception surrounding INEC threatens that role.
