A resident of Kawel community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Daniel Nanle, has recounted the tragic loss of his younger sister during a deadly attack on a Primary Health Centre in the area.
Gunmen reportedly stormed the community on Sunday night while residents were asleep, killing 22 people, including health workers, security personnel and patients receiving treatment at the health facility.
Speaking during a condolence visit by Plateau State Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo, Nanle narrated how his sister, Larai Danjuma, had been rushed to the hospital after going into labour.
According to him, she was admitted to the labour ward and was preparing to give birth when the attackers invaded the facility.
“My immediate sister was married to Mr. Danjuma Damial. She was taken to the hospital because she was due for delivery. Unfortunately, the attackers came and killed her,” Nanle told Daily Trust.
He said the assailants attacked the labour room, killing his sister along with other patients and health workers on duty at the facility.
The attack has left the community in mourning, with residents calling for improved security measures to prevent further violence in the area. Authorities are yet to provide an update on arrests or the identity of the attackers.
