The Nigeria Police Force says it has deployed security personnel to all 2,545 polling units in Ekiti State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of election security, CP Shogule Abayomi, said a layered security plan has been activated to ensure a peaceful and credible exercise.
He explained that officers and operational teams have been stationed across polling units, major roads, border areas, and key infrastructure to protect voters, election officials, observers, and election materials.
He added that the arrangement also covers entry and exit routes in the state as well as other strategic locations considered important to the election process.
According to him, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed officers deployed for the election to remain professional, neutral, and follow all operational guidelines during the exercise.
He warned that any electoral offence or attempt to disrupt the process will attract punishment under the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.
Abayomi urged residents to come out and vote peacefully, adding that security personnel are on ground to prevent intimidation or violence. He also advised the public to avoid spreading false information that could cause panic.
He released an emergency contact line, 080062335577, for residents to report security concerns before, during, and after the election.
No fewer than 13 political parties are expected to participate in the poll.
