A mother of three, identified as Olaitan Amire Adewumi, has been killed by suspected assailants in Ido-Ekiti, located in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Nigeria.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of Saturday, June 13, 2026, according to family accounts and local sources.
A relative of the deceased, Mr. Dare Akinola, said the attack may have been preceded by an earlier attempt on her life. He explained that on the night of Friday, June 12, unknown individuals allegedly tried to set fire to her residence, but the attempt failed after a passerby noticed smoke and raised an alarm, preventing the fire from spreading.
However, according to him, the attackers returned the following night with deadly consequences.
“Unfortunately, on Saturday, she was not so lucky. The attackers returned and attacked her, inflicting severe injuries that led to her death,” Akinola said.
He further alleged that after the killing, the assailants attempted to destroy evidence by setting parts of the scene ablaze, including placing flammable materials near the victim’s body.
Akinola confirmed that the matter has been reported to law enforcement authorities. He also disclosed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.
Authorities in Ekiti State Police Command are yet to release an official statement as inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the killing proceed.
