Real Madrid have completed the signing of former Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva on a free transfer, marking one of the standout moves of the summer window.
The 31-year-old Portuguese international joined the Spanish giants after his contract with Manchester City expired at the end of last season, bringing an end to a highly successful nine-year spell at the club.
Silva has signed a two-year deal with Real Madrid, becoming the club’s second major free transfer signing of the summer, following the arrival of defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reported to be worth £52 million.
Despite strong interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, Silva ultimately chose to continue his career in the Spanish capital with Real Madrid.
During his time at Manchester City, Silva made 460 appearances and scored 76 goals after arriving from AS Monaco in 2017. He played a central role in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, helping City secure six Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy among 16 major honours.
In his final season at the Etihad Stadium, Silva captained City and featured in all 38 Premier League matches, as the club finished second in the table while also lifting both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market this summer, continuing to strengthen their squad with multiple additions as they prepare for the new season.
