Ronaldinho Comes Out Of Retirement At 46 To Join Italy’s Ravenna FC.

Brazil and Barcelona legend Ronaldinho has reportedly come out of retirement at the age of 46 to join Italian Serie C side Ravenna FC, more than a decade after stepping away from professional football.

The former World Cup winner and Ballon d’Or recipient last played professionally in 2015, ending his illustrious career after a brief stint with Brazilian club Fluminense.

Ravenna FC, which narrowly missed promotion last season, has been seeking to strengthen its profile under owner Ignazio Cipriani. Ronaldinho’s arrival is expected to be officially unveiled during a special event in Miami next week.

Speaking about his return, Ronaldinho expressed excitement over the new chapter in his football journey.

“New colours, same smile. I can’t wait to get back to dancing on the ball and write a new story together with Ignazio and the entire Cipriani family,” he said.

“Football has always been a source of joy for me, and I want to bring that same spirit to Ravenna.”

Club owner Ignazio Cipriani described the acquisition as a dream come true, revealing that Ronaldinho had been his childhood idol.

“I spent 24 years of my life in the United States, but I still consider Ravenna my home,” Cipriani said.

“Acquiring Ronaldinho is absolutely extraordinary for the club. He was my idol and his impact on football goes beyond what he did on the pitch.”

However, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the nature of Ronaldinho’s involvement with the club. While some outlets claim the Brazilian has signed as a player, others suggest the arrangement is primarily a marketing and promotional partnership rather than a competitive playing role.

Adding to the speculation, Ravenna honorary vice-president Ariedo Braida dismissed rumours that Ronaldinho would feature in Serie C matches.

“Ronaldinho will do a marketing event with us, but he won’t play for Ravenna in Serie C next season,” Braida told The Sun.

“I wish he were still able to play. Dinho was a phenomenon and was a wonderful player.

“I have a beautiful relationship with him from the Milan days, but he won’t play in Serie C with us.”

For now, fans will have to wait for the official announcement to learn whether the Brazilian icon’s return will be on the pitch or primarily as the face of Ravenna FC’s latest promotional campaign.
