Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário has urged fans and pundits to stop debating the greatest player of all time following Lionel Messi’s latest historic performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi delivered a stunning display by scoring a hat-trick, taking his career World Cup tally to 16 goals. The feat sees the Argentine captain surpass Ronaldo’s previous tournament record of 15 goals and draw level with Germany’s Miroslav Klose as the joint-highest scorer in World Cup history.
Speaking in an interview reported by Mundo Deportivo, the former Brazil striker praised Messi’s consistency and impact on football’s biggest stage, insisting that his legacy is now beyond question.
“It’s time for the world to stop hiding and accept the fact that he is the best player of all time. He continues to deliver every season and in the World Cup and, yet, there are still doubts about him. It is an unforgettable and historic night that will remain forever in the history books,” Ronaldo said.
He further added that records are made to be broken, describing Messi’s achievement as something that should not surprise anyone familiar with the Argentine’s sustained excellence over the years.
