Ruth Kadiri Laments Rising Food Prices, Questions How Nigerians Are Surviving.

 

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has expressed concern over the rising cost of living in Nigeria, particularly the soaring prices of basic food items.

In a video shared on her social media platforms, the actress lamented the increasing cost of staple foods, describing the situation as alarming and difficult for many Nigerians.

Kadiri specifically highlighted the sharp rise in the price of tomatoes and peppers, noting that families now spend as much as ₦5,000 on items that were once considered affordable. She questioned how low-income earners are coping with the current economic realities.

According to the filmmaker, if she can personally feel the strain of the country's economic challenges despite her success, she can only imagine the level of hardship faced by average citizens.

“I am not one that is known for complaining, but these past couple of days have been so troubling for me because if somebody like me can start to feel the brunt of the heaviness of being a human being, I wonder what other people are going through,” she said.

She added that spending ₦5,000 on tomatoes and pepper alone is becoming the norm, even as many Nigerians earn between ₦25,000 and ₦50,000 monthly.

Kadiri also expressed concern over the growing cost of feeding, describing food as one of the most basic necessities of life.

“The cost of feeding, which is basic in Nigeria, is now so high. I don't know if they want us to turn against ourselves because people that are not sensitive will start looking at ourselves as the enemies,” she stated.

The actress further warned about the psychological effects of poverty, saying prolonged economic hardship can have a devastating impact on people's mental well-being.
