The Social Democratic Party has denied reports claiming it withdrew from Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election, describing the information as false and misleading. The party said its candidate, Isaac Alade, is still fully in the contest.
In a statement released in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Engine, said the candidate remains duly recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission and will appear on the ballot for the election.
The party also alleged that certain individuals were spreading wrong information to confuse voters ahead of the poll.
It urged the public to ignore any report suggesting that it had stepped down from the race.
Aiyenigba further raised concerns about difficulties the party faced with accessing the INEC portal for the upload of polling unit agents, claiming that the system was not opened despite access codes being issued. He said the situation could affect confidence in the process.
The SDP maintained that it remains committed to the election and described itself as a credible option for governance in Ekiti State, while also calling for a transparent and fair electoral process.
