Veteran Nigerian singer SkyB has voiced frustration over what he described as a lack of support from some of the younger artistes he helped during the early stages of their careers, particularly Grammy-winning star Burna Boy.
Speaking during an appearance on the KAA Truth podcast, the singer said he played a major role in promoting the music industry in Port Harcourt and assisted several artistes as they worked to gain recognition.
According to him, some of those he supported, including Timaya and Mr. 2Kay, have gone on to achieve success but have not maintained close ties with him.
SkyB said he feels disappointed that many of the artistes he once helped no longer offer support or acknowledge his contributions to the growth of the Port Harcourt music scene.
The singer also singled out Burna Boy, claiming that the international music star has not shown appreciation to those who laid the foundation for musicians from the city.
He argued that industry veterans who contributed to the development of the entertainment scene deserve recognition from those currently enjoying success.
SkyB further stated that support from established figures in the music industry, whether through collaborations or other forms of assistance, could help revive the careers of pioneers who contributed to the growth of the sector.
He also suggested that regional differences may influence the level of support artistes receive within the Nigerian music industry, adding that he believes some musicians from Port Harcourt have not received the same backing as their counterparts from other regions.
The veteran entertainer maintained that acknowledging the efforts of earlier generations of artistes would not only honour their contributions but also strengthen unity within the industry.
