Sowore Reacts After Being Remanded In Kuje Prison.

Activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has reacted to the Federal High Court order directing that he be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja over his absence from a previous court session.

Sowore spoke on Monday through a post on his X account shortly after the court's decision.

He said the order followed what he described as his only absence since the case began, explaining that he had been meeting with his new legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olumide Fusika.

According to Sowore, his lawyer informed the court that his absence was connected to legal consultations.

However, the court still proceeded with the remand order.

The activist stated that he was not troubled by the development and maintained his commitment to his political and social campaign.

He also called on his supporters to remain committed to what he described as the struggle against oppression, injustice and poor governance in the country.

The court, presided over by Justice Muhammad Umar, ordered that Sowore remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of an application filed by his new lawyer.

The application seeks to set aside the earlier order revoking his bail as well as the bench warrant issued against him.

The prosecution had earlier requested the revocation of Sowore's bail after he failed to appear in court at the previous hearing.

Although he sent a letter seeking an adjournment, the court was told that no reason was provided for his absence.

At Monday's proceedings, Sowore appeared before the court and was represented by Fusika. Justice Umar also rejected an application filed by Sowore asking the judge to withdraw from handling the case.

The matter is expected to continue as the court considers the application challenging the revocation of his bail and the warrant issued against him.
