Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have launched another attack on Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting fire to both the community’s primary and secondary schools.
The latest assault comes amid growing security concerns in the state following the abduction of pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba, who have reportedly remained missing for nearly a month.
According to security sources, the insurgents stormed Kautikari at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes to escape the attack.
“No casualty has been reported so far, but residents were forced to flee into the bush for safety,” one security source disclosed.
A resident of the community said the attackers had previously invaded the village months earlier but did not destroy public or private property during that incident.
“I wonder why they set ablaze the Primary School and Day Secondary School. Such attacks are unusual,” the resident said.
The destruction of the educational facilities has heightened fears among residents, particularly as communities in southern Borno continue to grapple with recurring insurgent attacks despite ongoing security operations in the region.
