TCN Plans Maintenance, Power Cuts To Hit Kano, Four Other States.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced that parts of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Yobe states will experience a temporary power outage on Sunday due to planned maintenance work on the national grid.

The company said the interruption is linked to upgrade work at the Kumbotso 330-kilovolt transmission substation, where it is carrying out improvements to boost electricity supply and strengthen the transmission network.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah. It also noted that Gazaoua in the Niger Republic will be affected during the maintenance period.

According to TCN, the ongoing work involves upgrading the 330kV Bus II jumpers and replacing 350mm² conductors with larger 800mm² conductors.

The project is aimed at improving the capacity and reliability of power transmission across the region.

Because of the maintenance, electricity distribution companies in the affected areas will not be able to receive bulk power for distribution to customers during the scheduled period.

This will affect the Kano Electricity Distribution Company as well as parts of Jos Electricity Distribution Company and Yola Electricity Distribution Company, leading to supply interruptions in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and Gazaoua in Niger Republic.

TCN said the outage is temporary and necessary to complete key upgrades that will improve stability and reduce future disruptions in electricity supply across the affected locations.
