Fear has spread across Eruku community in Kwara State after a primary school teacher, Shina Adeoye, was abducted by suspected terrorists while travelling to work.
The incident happened on Thursday morning along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku Road in Ekiti Local Government Area. Adeoye, who teaches at Cooperative Primary School, Eruku, was reportedly on his way to school when armed men intercepted him and took him to an unknown location.
Residents said the attack has renewed concerns over the security situation along the road, which many people use daily for work and other activities.
Community members described the road as increasingly unsafe, saying travellers often move in fear because of repeated security threats in the area. They also expressed concern over what they see as inadequate security presence along the route.
According to local sources, residents have repeatedly raised concerns about the security challenges on the road, but attacks have continued. They warned that criminal groups appear to be exploiting security gaps to target innocent road users.
The community has called on the government and security agencies to strengthen security operations along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku Road and other vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks.
As of the time of this report, Adeoye's whereabouts remain unknown, while efforts are ongoing to secure his release.
The latest abduction comes several months after suspected terrorists attacked Eruku community in November 2025. During that attack, at least two people lost their lives and another person was injured.
At the time, the Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident and said security personnel, supported by local vigilantes, responded to the attack and forced the assailants to retreat into nearby bushes.
Residents are now hoping for swift action from security agencies to rescue the abducted teacher and restore confidence among people living and travelling within the area.
