Tinubu Charges Judges On Faster Justice Delivery.

President Bola Tinubu has called on appellate judges to ensure quicker and fair handling of cases, saying court decisions must remain free from influence based on status, ethnicity, or wealth.

He warned that when the judiciary is weakened or compromised, it creates risks for the stability of democracy in the country.

Tinubu made the remarks during the commissioning of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division building complex located in Dakibiyu, within the Federal Capital Territory.

He was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The new facility is part of the administration’s plan to improve public institutions under the Renewed Hope programme.

He said the new complex replaces the old and overcrowded facility previously used by the Abuja Division and is meant to improve working conditions for judges.

He explained that the government decided to act after observing the poor state of the earlier building, adding that the situation was corrected through swift intervention.

The complex contains several courtrooms, including two large ones and eight smaller ones, which is a major increase from what previously existed.

With this expansion, more cases are expected to be handled at a faster pace, easing delays in the justice system and reducing pressure on correctional centres.

Tinubu noted that improving court infrastructure is part of efforts to strengthen governance and ensure citizens have better access to justice. He also said ongoing development projects across sectors such as health, education, power, and roads are aimed at rebuilding national institutions step by step.

He added that judges deserve a working environment that reflects the weight of their responsibilities, especially in Abuja where many sensitive cases are handled.

The President also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for delivering the project within a tight schedule, noting that construction started shortly after approval and was completed within the expected timeframe.

He credited him for also driving similar judicial projects across the capital.

According to him, improvements in court facilities, judges’ housing, and digital systems in the FCT are helping to support reforms in the justice sector.

The President of the Court of Appeal, Monica Dongban-Mensem, said the new building would improve the speed of handling appeals, pointing out that the Abuja Division had long operated with limited courtrooms, which slowed down work.

She thanked the federal government and FCT authorities for responding to the needs of the judiciary, noting that proper infrastructure is key to an effective legal system.

The Minister of the FCT had earlier explained that the condition of the court complex was brought to the President’s attention and approved for immediate upgrade, along with other judicial facilities in Abuja.

Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, described the project as part of renewed support for the judiciary, noting continued government backing since the start of the administration.

Officials present at the event said the new complex is expected to ease congestion, improve case management, and strengthen confidence in the justice system across the country.
