A trailer carrying iron rods crashed into the fence of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, in Abia State after reportedly losing control in the early hours of Thursday.
The accident occurred along the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Expressway near Finbarrs Road and close to the Abia State High Court, causing serious traffic congestion on the busy route.
According to information gathered at the scene, the trailer developed a mechanical problem while climbing a hill around 2 a.m.
The vehicle reportedly lost compression and rolled backwards before slamming into the perimeter fence of the medical facility.
The driver of the trailer, who did not disclose his identity, said the truck could not maintain its movement uphill due to the fault.
The vehicle then moved backward uncontrollably and crashed into the fence.
The impact left the trailer partially blocking the highway, making it difficult for motorists to pass through the area during the morning rush hour.
The situation resulted in long queues of vehicles as commuters struggled to navigate the affected section of the road.
As of the time of this report, there was no official information about injuries or deaths linked to the crash. Efforts were still underway to remove the trailer from the road and restore normal traffic flow.
