Troops Arrest Dismissed Police Officer Over Alleged Interstate Arms Trafficking In Plateau.

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) have arrested a dismissed police officer suspected of playing a key role in an interstate arms trafficking network allegedly supplying weapons to criminal groups across Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Danjuma Yusuf, was apprehended in Plateau State during an intelligence-led operation carried out by troops of Sector 6 in collaboration with the Headquarters of Operation ENDURING PEACE.

According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Yusuf is a former inspector who was attached to Police Base 7 in Abuja before being dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

The Army disclosed that the operation was launched following credible intelligence on the movement of illicit arms across state lines.

Investigators said the suspect was travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South Local Government Area toward the Makera axis of Riyom Local Government Area when he was placed under surveillance and intercepted at a military checkpoint in Makera.

A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray, and a jack knife.

Security operatives also recovered two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police staff identification tag, photographs of the suspect in police uniform, two Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, and cash totaling ₦73,300.

In its statement, the Nigerian Army described the arrest as a major breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against the proliferation of illegal firearms and organized crime.

“Preliminary findings identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, formerly of Nigeria Police Force Base 7, Abuja, who had been dismissed from service,” the statement said.

The Army further alleged that intelligence gathered so far indicates Yusuf is a key figure in an interstate arms trafficking syndicate believed to be supplying weapons to criminal groups involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in military custody and is undergoing further interrogation as investigators work to identify his associates, financiers, and supply channels.

The military said the arrest represents a significant disruption to illegal arms trafficking operations and highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven security operations aimed at curbing the circulation of illicit weapons.

The Nigerian Army also reaffirmed its commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to combating threats to national security and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could assist in dismantling criminal networks across the country.
