Troops of Sector 1 under Operation Enduring Peace have successfully foiled an attempted armed robbery attack in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, forcing the suspects to abandon their operation and flee the scene.
According to security sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 9, when armed assailants attacked the residence of Pastor Inyam Inyam in the Hwol Buju community. Troops were immediately mobilized following reports of gunfire in the area.
The swift response by security personnel reportedly disrupted the operation, compelling the suspected robbers to escape before carrying out their intended mission.
“Upon receiving the distress report, troops moved swiftly to the area and took actions that forced the criminals to flee the scene,” a security source disclosed.
During the attack, Pastor Inyam and his daughter, Hannatu Inyam, sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Mista-Ali, where they received medical attention.
Investigators recovered a spent 7.62mm special ammunition casing from the scene as part of efforts to gather evidence and identify those responsible.
Security sources further revealed that a subsequent medical examination indicated that the female victim was sexually assaulted during the incident, adding a disturbing dimension to the attack.
Authorities have since launched a full-scale investigation while troops and other security operatives continue follow-up operations aimed at tracking down and arresting the fleeing suspects.
Military officials condemned the attack and reassured residents of their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Plateau State and the wider Joint Operations Area.
They also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in apprehending the perpetrators and preventing similar incidents in the future.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by security forces to combat criminal activities and enhance security in vulnerable communities across the state.
