United States President Donald Trump has claimed that recent missile strikes ordered by his administration in Nigeria helped stop attacks on Christian communities and weakened terrorist groups operating in the country.
Speaking at an event in Washington on Friday, June 27, 2026, Trump said the military operation greatly reduced the killing of Christians, whom he said had been targeted by terrorists across parts of Nigeria.
According to the US president, thousands of Christians, including women, children and elderly people, had been killed before the strikes. He said the attacks forced his administration to take military action against the armed groups.
Trump also claimed the operation killed top terrorist leaders, including the group's leader and other senior commanders. He said the action served as a warning that any further attacks would attract an even stronger military response.
The US leader compared the operation in Nigeria with his administration's approach toward Iran, saying both were aimed at preventing major security threats.
He added that his administration remained committed to protecting Christians around the world by taking military action against terrorist groups wherever they operate.
Trump further said the United States would continue pursuing extremist groups and confronting threats to religious freedom across different parts of the world.
