United States President Donald Trump is set to host a major Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event at the White House as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th Independence anniversary and his 80th birthday.
The event, known as UFC Freedom 250, is scheduled to take place on Sunday on the South Lawn of the White House.
A massive arena called “The Claw” has been specially constructed for the tournament, which will feature 14 UFC fighters competing inside the famous Octagon cage.
The project has attracted attention across the United States, with supporters describing it as a unique way to celebrate the nation’s milestone anniversary.
Critics, however, have questioned the timing of the event, pointing to economic challenges facing many Americans and ongoing tensions involving Iran.
Trump, who has maintained a close relationship with UFC over the years, has attended several mixed martial arts events and remains popular among many fans of the sport.
The president has stated that UFC is covering the cost of the event.
The tournament is expected to draw around 4,000 spectators inside the arena, while another 125,000 people are expected to watch from large screens placed on the Ellipse, a public area located near the White House.
UFC President Dana White said more than half of the available seats would be allocated to members of the United States military.
The arena itself has become a major attraction. Weighing about 600 tons, the structure measures 154 feet in width and rises 92 feet into the air, making it taller than the White House building.
The event will take place on grounds that have hosted several historic moments in American history, including the signing ceremony of the Oslo Peace Accords in 1993 and the farewell appearance of former President Richard Nixon.
