UK Police Launch Manhunt For Nigerian Prison Escapee In London.

British police have started a search for a Nigerian-born man who escaped from custody while being moved from court in south-east London.

The incident happened on June 8, 2026. Temitope Segun, 25, was being transported after a court appearance when he escaped during transit in the Woolwich area.

Segun was serving a sentence for supplying Class A drugs before the escape. He was said to have been moved from Bromley Magistrates’ Court to HMP Thameside when he allegedly attacked a custody officer inside a prison transport van.

The van was operated by private contractor Serco. During the incident, he reportedly overpowered a guard and fled after the vehicle stopped near Woolwich High Street at about 18:40 BST.

Metropolitan Police Service said officers are working to locate and arrest him. They added that the public should report any sighting of the suspect immediately to emergency services.

Serco confirmed it was responsible for the prisoner escort at the time and said the matter is under investigation. It also confirmed that one staff member was injured during the incident and is currently recovering.

Segun was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers, and black trainers. Police said he is believed to have links to Plumstead, Abbey Wood, and Woolwich.

The search for him is still ongoing as officers continue efforts to track him down across affected areas.
