Bandits Kill Security Guard, Abduct Pastor & Two Others In Abuja Community.

Bandits have attacked Mpape, a community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), killing a security guard and abducting three people, including a pastor.

The attack occurred late on Wednesday, 9 July 2026, in a new layout within the community known as Yellow House.

Mpape is located just a few minutes from the upscale district of Maitama and is also situated close to a military barracks in the nation's capital.

According to residents, the attackers, believed to be about 10 in number, arrived in the area shortly before 11 p.m. and targeted a particular residence.

A source said the gunmen failed to gain access to the house after a police patrol team, which had been alerted to the incident, arrived at the scene.

"They didn't succeed in breaking into the home when a police patrol team that had been alerted about the incident arrived. They withdrew immediately while exchanging gunfire with the security personnel," the source said.

However, as the assailants retreated, they reportedly encountered a pastor who was returning home and abducted him.

The source added that the gunmen also kidnapped two other residents along the road while fleeing the area.

"They succeeded in abducting him from his own car and also kidnapped two other residents along the road as they were fleeing the area. The pastor's car was later found abandoned along a road within the neighbourhood," the source said.

During the operation, another resident was reportedly shot in the leg by the attackers. The victim was subsequently taken to hospital by police officers for medical treatment.

Residents said gunshots continued to ring out across the community until about 2 a.m., creating panic among locals.

The latest incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, particularly in communities on the outskirts of Abuja that have witnessed a series of kidnappings and attacks in recent years.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm whether any arrests had been made.
