Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has stirred reactions on social media after advising Nigerians to prioritise their lives over making sacrifices that could cost them their lives.
The entertainer shared the message via his Instagram Story on Sunday, urging citizens not to risk their lives for the country, arguing that personal survival is more important than becoming a temporary topic of discussion online.
“Whatever you do in this life, don't die for Nigeria. You are more valuable alive than as a trending hashtag,” Basketmouth wrote.
He added that public attention on social media is often short-lived.
“A trending hashtag that might possibly last a few days,” he stated.
The comedian's remarks have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing that individuals should prioritise their safety and well-being, while others interpreted the statement as a reflection of growing frustration over the country's socio-economic and security challenges.
