Former United States President Joe Biden has announced that he will release a memoir about his time in the White House later this year while also giving an update on his health, saying his treatment for prostate cancer is progressing well.

Biden made the announcement on Wednesday through a video shared on his X account. The 83-year-old said that after leaving office, he had focused on spending time with his family and receiving medical treatment following his cancer diagnosis. He also expressed gratitude to those who have continued to support and pray for him.

The former president disclosed in May 2025, four months after leaving office, that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. After the diagnosis, he began radiation therapy.

His upcoming memoir, titled Promise Me, America, will tell the story of his four years as president from 2021 to 2025. According to Biden, the book will explain the major challenges his administration faced, the decisions taken during his presidency, and the reasons behind those choices.

The memoir will revisit several major events that shaped his time in office, including the January 6 attack on the US Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump, the war in Ukraine, and the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

Biden also said the book would explain why he decided to seek another term in office and what led to his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

During his presidency, Biden faced repeated questions about his age and health. Despite those concerns, he announced his bid for re-election in 2024 while serving as the oldest president in US history.

However, after a poor debate performance against Donald Trump in June 2024 and growing pressure from members of the Democratic Party, Biden ended his campaign and stepped aside.

Following Biden's withdrawal, then-Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic Party's presidential candidate but later lost the election to Trump.

Biden's memoir is scheduled for release on November 17, 2026, just weeks after the United States holds its midterm elections.

Harris had earlier released her own memoir, 107 Days, which tells the story of her short presidential campaign after Biden exited the race.
