Money Laundering Scandal Rocks Former Arsenal Star.

Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has reportedly been arrested and questioned by French police as part of a money laundering investigation linked to an alleged drug trafficking network.

According to French media reports, the former France international was detained and interrogated for around 10 hours on Thursday before being released without charge.

The investigation centres on alleged links to Hakim Berrebouh, a jailed Marseille drug trafficker known by the nickname "Wild Boar", and an extensive criminal network suspected of laundering proceeds from drug trafficking.

Authorities are reportedly investigating offences including suspected drug importation, criminal conspiracy and organised money laundering.

Despite being questioned by investigators, no legal proceedings have been initiated against Nasri and he currently faces no charges.

The former footballer, who now works as a pundit for French television channel Canal Plus, is alleged to have links to the money laundering aspect of the case through the XS nightclub in Ivry-sur-Seine, located in the Val-de-Marne region of France.

Nasri is said to have invested several hundred thousand euros in the nightclub around 2016 while he was earning millions during his time at Manchester City.

He later became a co-owner of the venue alongside an associate identified as Bilele Z., who was also reportedly taken into police custody on Thursday.

Investigators are examining activities between 2021 and 2023, including allegations that large sums of cash were withdrawn from the nightclub.

According to evidence gathered during the preliminary investigation, Berrebouh's wife allegedly visited the establishment several times to collect substantial amounts of money while her husband was in prison.

Reports suggest that Nasri's connection to the Berrebouh family dates back to his childhood in Marseille, where he was allegedly close to the trafficker's older brother.

Investigators further claim that Nasri reconnected with Berrebouh in Dubai during the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 and that the trafficker later encouraged him to take a financial stake in the nightclub. However, the arrangement was allegedly never formalised in writing.

During questioning, Nasri reportedly insisted that he believed he had already sold all of his shares in the nightclub to Berrebouh.

The latest interrogation comes after the former French international, who earned 41 caps for his country between 2007 and 2013, was previously questioned in Marseille in late June as part of the same investigation.

Although Nasri has not been charged, reports indicate that investigators could summon him again as the probe into the alleged criminal network continues.
