Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan Rejects Viral Report Of ₦500bn Offer To Enter Presidential Race.

 

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed a media report alleging that he was offered ₦500 billion to contest the presidency against opposition candidate Peter Obi, describing the claim as false and misleading.In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, said the publication was “entirely false and baseless,” urging the public to disregard it.

Eze criticised the report, which was attributed to a little-known website, for alleging that the former president made comments about being offered money to join the presidential race. He said the story failed to meet basic journalistic standards.

According to him, the report did not provide details such as when or where Jonathan supposedly made the statement, who witnessed it, or who allegedly made the offer.

“The report failed to state where or when Jonathan allegedly made such a claim, who was present or who purportedly made the alleged offer,” he said.

He added that the publication showed “all the hallmarks of fake news” and appeared designed to mislead the public and draw the former president into political controversy.
