Nigerian rapper and actor Falz has criticised the government’s handling of the country’s challenges, questioning its spending decisions and rejecting calls for citizens, especially young people, to take more responsibility for solving national problems.
Falz made the comments during a recent interview on Arise TV, where he spoke about insecurity, government spending and comments credited to the First Lady about the pressure facing the administration.
The entertainer questioned whether creating more foundations was the right approach to addressing Nigeria’s difficulties, arguing that such moves do not tackle the major issues affecting the country.
He also raised concerns about the money spent on official vehicles, aircraft and other government needs while security challenges continue across the country. Falz questioned the priorities of leaders and said government responsibilities should not be shifted to ordinary citizens.
Reacting to the First Lady’s statement that the pressure on the government was high and that younger Nigerians should contribute more, Falz disagreed with the idea, saying elected officials accepted the responsibility when they sought public office.
He questioned why leaders would complain about pressure after choosing to take on leadership roles.
Falz also spoke about the campaign slogan “E mi l’okan,” which was used during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign. He described the phrase, which means “it is my turn,” as one of the most unusual political slogans he had encountered.
According to him, the slogan suggested that seeking power was a long-term ambition, making complaints about the demands of office unnecessary.
He said leaders who pursued political positions should have been prepared for the responsibilities that came with them rather than presenting the role as an unexpected burden.
