U.S. Congressman Greg Steube has announced the passage of his amendment requiring the full withholding of U.S. aid to Nigeria until the Nigerian government takes effective action to address the ongoing violence targeting Christians and other Nigerian citizens.
The move
follows years of reported attacks on Christian communities, particularly in
northern Nigeria, where thousands have been killed and churches destroyed by
armed groups, including Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed Fulani militants,
according to international reports.
The
amendment is part of broader efforts in the U.S. Congress to tie American
foreign assistance to human rights benchmarks and greater government
accountability.
