A two-storey building under construction on Sultan Road in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State has collapsed, leaving four people trapped beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on Friday, 10 July 2026, sparking an emergency rescue operation at the site.
Eyewitnesses said construction workers noticed signs that the structure was failing while they were working on the top floor and quickly fled to safety.
However, four people, including a security guard and a tricycle rider, were unable to escape before the building came crashing down.
Confirming the incident, one of the construction workers, Shuaibu Yaro, said three of the victims had been rescued, while efforts were continuing to save the fourth person still trapped under the debris.
"We came to work here and had started taking sand upstairs when the site engineer noticed the signs of collapse. We rushed to safety, but unfortunately three people were in front of the gate and one other person was trapped," Yaro said.
He added, "Three have been rescued, including the security guard and his friend, while one person remains trapped."
According to Yaro, the rescued victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders and residents were still carrying out rescue operations at the scene in an effort to locate and save the remaining victim.
