Gunmen Kill Lagos NURTW Official.

The Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Ijaya, has died after he was attacked by gunmen in Lagos.

The attack happened on Sunday night as Ajiboye was returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi. Reports said the gunmen intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road area and opened fire several times.

Photos and videos shared on social media after the attack showed his white vehicle with many bullet holes on the windscreen and other parts of the car, showing the level of damage caused by the shooting.

Early reports suggested that Ajiboye and other people inside the vehicle survived the attack despite suffering gunshot injuries. However, later updates confirmed that the union official died from the wounds he sustained.

Following the incident, the Chairman of the NURTW Lagos State Council, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, widely known as Sego, mourned the death of Ajiboye and described him as one of his closest associates in the union.

In a message shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Adekunle said Ajiboye served the union with dedication and remained a dependable member of their political structure for many years. He said the late organising secretary was not only a trusted colleague but also a reliable friend whose commitment to the union would always be remembered.

He added that Ajiboye played an active role in TeamSego and SegoNation, saying his loyalty and support made him an important figure within the group. According to him, the late union leader stood by the organisation through different periods and earned the respect of many members.

Adekunle also extended his sympathy to Ajiboye's family, friends and members of the NURTW. He prayed for God to forgive the deceased, grant him eternal rest and give those mourning him the strength to bear the loss.

As of the time of this report, the identity of the attackers and the motive behind the shooting had not been made known. Security agencies have also not announced any arrest in connection with the killing.
