A mother and her first son, identified as Joshua, have reportedly been killed after being held captive by kidnappers in Kaduna State, in a tragic incident that has sparked renewed concerns over insecurity in the region.
According to reports, the woman was abducted in December 2025 from Bayan Dutse, Narayi, in Kaduna South Local Government Area. Her abductors allegedly demanded a ransom that her family and members of the community were unable to raise.
A member of the community, identified as Noble, disclosed the incident in a Facebook post on Saturday, alleging that the family could not meet the kidnappers' demands within the stipulated period.
According to Noble, Joshua later volunteered to deliver the amount the family had managed to raise in the hope of negotiating his mother's release.
However, upon arriving at the kidnappers' hideout, he allegedly discovered that his mother had already died while in captivity.
The kidnappers reportedly collected the ransom before seizing Joshua. He was allegedly tortured to death, leaving behind his wife, children, and other grieving family members.
Describing the victims, Noble said the deceased woman was widely known in her community for her kindness and compassion, adding that her abduction had devastated relatives and neighbours.
He said the incident underscores the growing threat posed by kidnapping and violent crime in Kaduna State, where many families continue to face the trauma of abductions for ransom.
Noble called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“I am calling on Senator Uba Sani, General CG Musa and the Armed Forces to investigate this matter and bring the perpetrators to book. This can't be normalised; it must stop,” he wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command and other security agencies had not issued an official statement on the incident.
