Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed reports circulating online that she has filed for divorce from her husband.
In a statement shared on social media, Okwu-Kanu described the reports as completely false and urged the public to disregard them.
"My attention was drawn to false reports circulating online claiming that I have filed for divorce from my husband, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu," she said.
"For the avoidance of doubt, I have not filed for divorce. The publication is entirely false and should be treated as misinformation."
She also expressed concern over what she described as the deliberate spread of unverified information about her family.
"It is deeply concerning that individuals continue to fabricate stories about my family and present them as facts without any attempt at verification. Deliberately spreading falsehoods does not advance any cause; it only misleads the public and undermines responsible journalism," she added.
Okwu-Kanu further urged members of the public to rely only on information released directly by her or through her authorised representatives.
The clarification comes amid the continued incarceration of the IPOB leader, who is serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Correctional Centre following his conviction on terrorism-related charges.
In November 2025, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja found Kanu guilty on all seven counts brought against him by the Federal Government.
The court sentenced him to life imprisonment on counts one, two, four, five and six, 20 years' imprisonment on count three and five years on count seven. The sentences are running concurrently.
The latest statement from Okwu-Kanu appears aimed at quashing speculation surrounding her marriage and countering misinformation that has continued to circulate on social media regarding her family.
