No One Wants Obi Dead - Umahi.

Minister of Works David Umahi has rejected claims by Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi that his life is in danger.

He described the allegation as without evidence and said there was no reason for anyone to want Obi harmed ahead of the 2027 general election.

Umahi spoke on Friday while inspecting ongoing federal road projects in Ebonyi State.According to him, Obi should remain safe and take part in the next presidential election because he believes the former Anambra State governor will face another defeat at the polls.

The minister made the remarks after Obi recently said he had received threats because of his criticism of the Federal Government. Umahi said the claim came from political frustration and did not reflect the real situation.

He also said Obi’s position was linked to his belief that the South-East is still firmly behind him after the 2023 presidential election.

Umahi, however, argued that the political situation in the region has changed since then. He described Obi’s performance in the last election as a result of unusual political circumstances rather than a lasting shift.

Umahi said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has gained more support in the South-East through road construction, other infrastructure projects, and appointments given to people from the region.

He added that many residents now prefer the government's development efforts instead of what he called AI-style politics.

The minister also repeated his challenge to Peter Obi to a public debate on the performance of the Tinubu administration. He said the discussion should focus on infrastructure projects and the government's approach to including the South-East in national development.
