The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says it has uploaded the names of its presidential candidate, running mate and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission's Candidate Nomination Portal ahead of the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the party's National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, who said the move shows the faction's readiness to take part in the 2027 elections.
According to Mohammed, the successful upload is part of the party's preparations for the polls and reflects its commitment to completing the nomination process within the timeframe provided by INEC.
A screenshot shared by the faction from the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal showed that 410 new candidate forms had been registered. Out of the total, 367 forms had been submitted, while 42 were still pending.
Mohammed also disclosed that the party was waiting for the completion of the upload of its governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates before concluding the exercise.
He congratulated party members across the country and in the diaspora for reaching another stage in the nomination process and expressed optimism that the party would continue working towards strengthening its structure ahead of the elections.
The development came shortly after INEC announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit the names of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through its online nomination portal.
It also followed the announcement by the ruling All Progressives Congress that it had completed the upload of 471 candidates to the INEC portal, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, 109 Senate candidates and 360 House of Representatives candidates.
