The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the killing of 25-year-old model Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee.
Mbaya, a graduate of the University of Jos, died on Sunday, 26 July 2026, after he was allegedly beaten by a mob, including some of his friends, over accusations of mobile phone theft.The latest suspect was paraded alongside three others who had previously been arrested in connection with the incident.
Speaking during the parade of the suspects in Jos on Tuesday, 28 July, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said the arrests followed intelligence received from a Good Samaritan, who alerted the police that a young man had been rushed to hospital in critical condition after a violent assault.
According to Alabo, the victim later died from injuries sustained during the attack.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the newly arrested suspect, identified as Tisloh Joshua, was apprehended following sustained intelligence gathering and a discreet investigation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
"Following sustained intelligence gathering and discreet investigation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the Command has arrested one Tisloh Joshua for his involvement in the crime," Alabo said.
He added that the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue, noting that efforts have been intensified to apprehend two other suspects who are still at large.
The Plateau State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that everyone connected to the incident is identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The command also assured the family of the deceased and residents of Plateau State that justice would be diligently pursued.
Condemning all forms of mob justice, the police urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report suspected criminal activities to the appropriate security agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.
The command further thanked residents for their continued cooperation and appealed for credible, timely and actionable information to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace, security and public safety across the state.
