Troost-Ekong Backs England To Defeat Norway In World Cup Quarter-Final.

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has tipped England to defeat Norway in their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final clash.

The highly anticipated encounter is scheduled to take place at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday evening in Miami.

England booked their place in the last eight after edging co-hosts Mexico 3-2 in a dramatic Round of 16 encounter, despite playing part of the match with 10 men following Jarell Quansah's red card.

Norway, meanwhile, produced one of the biggest shocks of the tournament by eliminating five-time champions Brazil with a 2-1 victory inspired by a brace from star striker Erling Haaland.

The quarter-final marks another deep run in a major tournament for England under manager Thomas Tuchel, having already overcome DR Congo and Mexico to reach this stage.

For Norway, it is a historic achievement as they are featuring in their first-ever World Cup quarter-final after ending a 28-year absence from the competition.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Troost-Ekong said England possess a slight advantage over the Scandinavian side, despite Norway's impressive performances in the tournament.

"I think that England probably has just an edge over them. Norway has already done something special, and Harry Kane is a player I have known as a kid; we played together at Tottenham Hotspur," he said.

The former Nigerian international also praised England captain Harry Kane, describing him as one of the most consistent strikers in world football.

"A very refined striker. Sometimes I don't think he gets more credit than he deserves because he has been so consistent over the years," Troost-Ekong added.

He also highlighted the influence of England midfielder Jude Bellingham, insisting that the Real Madrid star could prove decisive in the contest.

"For Kane and Haaland, I think it's going to be a real battle. I don't think it's going to be a draw or goalless, but I think England will surely edge it," he concluded.

The winner of Saturday's encounter will progress to the semi-finals as both nations continue their quest for World Cup glory.
