The returnees arrived aboard a South African Airways flight and were received by officials of several Federal Government agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
Their arrival brings the total number of Nigerians repatriated with the support of a philanthropic group to 150, following the earlier return of 83 Nigerians last Thursday.
Representatives of the group, Ikem Ume-Ezeoke and Chief Charles Mba, welcomed the returnees and presented each of them with ₦50,000 as immediate financial assistance.
The South-West Coordinator of NEMA, Alex Oturu, said the evacuation of the latest batch was facilitated by well-meaning Nigerians who provided support for flight tickets and other necessary arrangements.
According to Oturu, the returnees were affected by xenophobic challenges in South Africa, prompting efforts to assist those willing to return home.
The development comes amid reports of growing violence targeting migrants in the country, with several African nations evacuating their citizens in recent weeks.
At least four migrants have reportedly been killed in the violence, according to South African police, although some foreign governments have suggested that the death toll could be higher.
