Cameroon became the latest nation to book their place after defeating Nigeria’s Super Falcons 1-0 in their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final clash.
The victory sent the Indomitable Lionesses into the WAFCON semi-finals and also guaranteed their qualification for next year’s Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria, meanwhile, will have to continue their fight for a place at the global tournament. The Super Falcons will face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in a crucial play-off, with a World Cup ticket at stake.
The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup will feature 32 teams, with Brazil set to host the competition.
So far, 18 nations have secured qualification across the various confederations.
Africa: Algeria, Cameroon, Malawi and Morocco.
Asia: Australia, China, Japan, North Korea, Philippines and South Korea.
Europe: Denmark, France, Germany and Spain.
Oceania: New Zealand.
South America: Argentina, Brazil (hosts) and Colombia.
The remaining qualification places will be determined through the respective continental competitions and play-offs as the road to Brazil 2027 continues.
