The suspect was reportedly found unconscious with various degrees of burns inside the transformer located along Ogbaike Road at about 2:20 p.m.
According to the police, community members alerted security operatives after discovering the suspect trapped inside the transformer while he was allegedly attempting to vandalise it.
Operatives attached to the Udenu Police Division were immediately mobilised to the scene, where they found Chidiebere unconscious and suffering from severe burns.
He was promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital, where he was resuscitated before being referred to a specialist hospital for further treatment.
After regaining consciousness, the suspect reportedly identified himself as Nnaji Chidiebere and claimed that he was alone at the scene.
However, preliminary investigations have allegedly linked him to cases of transformer vandalism within the area.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said further investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect's alleged activities and identify any possible accomplices.
Ndukwe added that the police would take the necessary steps to ensure the suspect was prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
