Flight operations by Air Peace have been disrupted across Nigeria after members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) reportedly shut the airline’s terminals in protest.
Operations at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos were disrupted on Tuesday morning, leaving passengers stranded and flights delayed.
An Air Peace flight scheduled to depart Lagos at 6.30am was unable to take off, with similar disruptions reported at airports across the country.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, confirmed that the disruption was linked to a union action.
“Yes, it is a union thing. When I get to the airport, I will be able to get more factual details of the situation,” he said.
Passengers took to social media to report the disruption.
One X user, YoufoundAlex, said he had been left stranded at Lagos airport because of the protest.
“I have a 9.00am appointment in Abuja today, but unfortunately, I am currently stranded at the Lagos airport due to an ongoing protest by Air Peace workers, which has resulted in the shutdown of the airport and disruption of flights,” he wrote.
The disruption has caused delays and left passengers unable to travel from Lagos.
Air Peace management had not issued a statement on the incident at the time of filing.
It was also unclear whether the industrial action had affected the operations of other airlines.
