The operation was carried out between the early hours of August 26 and 27 in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area following intelligence on the presence of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in the region.
Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
According to the statement, the joint force, comprising the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team and newly deployed troops of the 226 Battalion, carried out a stealth operation into the rugged terrain before launching an assault on the terrorists’ hideout.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters, with more than 21 fighters neutralised while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The military said the entire camp was subsequently dismantled, with its logistics infrastructure destroyed to further weaken the operational capacity of the terrorist group in the area.
Several motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit were also destroyed during the operation. The items were believed to have been used to support the movement and logistics of the terrorists.
Troops also recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition from the camp.
The operation was said to be part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue people abducted by terrorist groups, including residents taken from Mussa community in May 2026 and schoolchildren abducted from Lassa in June 2026.
According to Operation HADIN KAI, the successful raid demonstrated the ability of the joint force to penetrate difficult terrain, dismantle terrorist hideouts and restrict the movement of insurgents across the North-East.
The Military High Command commended the troops and the ONSA Tactical Team for their coordination, professionalism and resilience during the operation.
The Joint Task Force said it would continue intelligence-driven operations aimed at locating and rescuing abducted persons, destroying terrorist strongholds and disrupting their logistics and fighting capabilities.
The military also reassured residents that operations across the North-East would continue until abducted persons are rescued and lasting peace and security are restored to the region.
