Arsenal remain interested in signing Nigeria international Victor Osimhen from Galatasaray but have reportedly told the striker he would need to reduce his salary demands to complete a move to north London.
Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his attacking options before the summer transfer window closes, with Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez also reportedly on Arsenal's shortlist.
However, Atletico are understood to be reluctant to sell Alvarez, while the Argentina international is reportedly more interested in a move to Barcelona than a return to the Premier League.
According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal have held talks over a potential deal for Osimhen, who is said to be admired by Arteta.
The report claims Arsenal have “no intention of making an unreasonable offer” for the 27-year-old and will not match his current Galatasaray contract, which is reportedly worth more than €20 million (£17.1 million) per year.
Osimhen must therefore decide whether to accept a lower salary package in order to join Arsenal or remain with Galatasaray.
Galatasaray have already rejected a reported €130 million (£111 million) offer from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal for the striker this month. Club president Dursun Ozbek is reportedly determined to keep Osimhen in Turkey this summer.
Al-Hilal have since ended their pursuit of the Nigeria forward and turned their attention to Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, although their latest £45 million offer for the England international has reportedly been rejected.
Osimhen has continued to strengthen his credentials on the pitch amid the transfer speculation. On Friday, August 21, he scored twice as Galatasaray recorded a 4-0 away victory over Erzurumspor.
The striker had also scored twice in Galatasaray's 2-2 draw against newly promoted Corum FK in their opening Super Lig fixture of the season.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Osimhen has refused to rule out either remaining in Turkey or completing a move before the transfer window closes.
“There are always rumours during the transfer windows,” Osimhen said. “I'll focus on my job. I'm focused on my work. We'll see and think about what's next then.”
