Atiku Dismisses Obasanjo’s Political Influence, Says He Is Not Bothered By Lack Of Endorsement.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed the political and electoral influence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying he is not concerned about the former leader’s refusal to endorse him.

Atiku made the remarks while speaking with journalists on Wednesday, August 19, as he also reflected on his relationship with Obasanjo and his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Vice President and Obasanjo have had a strained relationship since they left office in 2007, after serving two terms as President and Vice President respectively.

Atiku has previously stated that his opposition to Obasanjo’s alleged third-term ambition was driven by his commitment to protecting Nigeria’s Constitution and democracy rather than personal disloyalty.

Speaking on Obasanjo’s political relevance, Atiku said he was not bothered by the former President’s decision not to support his presidential ambition.

“In 1999, he could not even win his own state or the Southwest; it was Arewa that made him President. He possesses no electoral value,” Atiku said.

The former Vice President also spoke about his plans for young Nigerians if elected President in 2027.

According to him, he gave several young Nigerians opportunities to serve in government during his time as Vice President, noting that some of them have since gone on to become governors, ministers, directors and holders of other prominent positions.

Atiku said he would continue to create opportunities for young people to participate in governance and take up leadership roles if elected President.

According to him, empowering younger Nigerians and giving them opportunities to contribute to national development would remain a key part of his approach to governance.
