Dino Melaye Warns Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Election, Cites Abacha’s Political Fate.

Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has cautioned President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, using the political fate of late former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, as a reference.

Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said Abacha had enjoyed widespread political support during his attempt to transform from military rule to civilian leadership but ultimately failed to achieve that ambition due to what he described as the “God factor”.

In a post shared on X on Wednesday, 5 August, Melaye advised Tinubu not to ignore what he called the influence of divine intervention in human affairs.

“There is a God factor in the affairs of men. Tinubu does not understand this. Abacha was endorsed by all the five political parties at that time. There was no contest, he was already cruising to become a civilian president,” Melaye wrote.

He added that Abacha’s transition plans were halted despite the political backing he had received, saying events beyond human control could alter political outcomes.

Melaye’s comments come as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various groups and parties positioning themselves for the contest.

Tinubu, who was elected President in 2023, has not formally declared his intention for a second term, although several supporters and political allies have continued to campaign for his re-election.
