The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and several other political groups in Ekiti State have begun working together to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
The move was disclosed by the 2026 PDP governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, during the first meeting of the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda in Ado-Ekiti.
Oluyede said the political alliance involves the PDP, Accord, Action Democratic Party (ADP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA) and other groups. He said the groups had agreed to work together to secure support for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
He called on his supporters and political associates to move past the disagreements that followed the 2026 Ekiti governorship election and concentrate on the next presidential election.
According to Oluyede, the decision to support Tinubu was based on what he described as a broader interest in Nigeria rather than personal financial benefits.
He said members of the alliance were interested in working for the development of the country.
Oluyede explained that his decision followed an approach from the Presidency, with Tinubu asking him to put the political disputes from the Ekiti election behind him and cooperate with his administration.
He said the President made it clear that the disagreements surrounding the governorship election should not stop them from working together politically.
Oluyede also stated that Tinubu did not ask him to abandon the PDP.
Rather, he said the President sought his cooperation for the 2027 election and expressed willingness to work with him after securing another term.
The former PDP candidate therefore asked his supporters to set aside their grievances over the Ekiti election and support Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
He also announced that his political disagreement with Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji had come to an end.
Oluyede said he was now ready to work with the governor as part of efforts to support Tinubu.
He recalled that he had previously played a role in the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), a movement created to support Tinubu’s political ambition before the 2023 presidential election.
Oluyede said his latest decision was in line with his earlier political relationship with Tinubu and his belief that different political groups could work together despite their disagreements.
He said he would no longer pursue his political dispute with Oyebanji, adding that the governor had secured his victory in the governorship election and that he was prepared to move forward.
Oluyede further explained that any future meetings or interactions between him and the governor would be connected to the wider campaign for Tinubu’s return to the presidency.
He maintained, however, that his support for Tinubu would not mean the end of the PDP’s political activities in Ekiti State.
He said the party would prepare for the next governorship election in the state and seek to return to power in 2030.
The political alliance, according to Oluyede, is still being expanded, with more parties and political groups expected to join the arrangement ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He listed ADP, YPP, Accord and AA among the parties involved and said the groups were joining the alliance because of their belief in supporting the country’s development.
