Political economist and former presidential candidate, Pat Utomi, has reacted to the just-concluded governorship election in Osun State, saying the outcome has demonstrated that “evil has an expiry date”.
Utomi said the election also showed that even those considered “unworthy” could sometimes be used to halt what he described as a dangerous “train”.
In a post shared on his X handle, Utomi reflected on the political situation in the country, warning leaders against ignoring the growing anger and hardship among Nigerians.
“If Osun elections proved a point, it is that evil has an expiry date and that even the unworthy can be used to stop the train,” he wrote.
He added that righteousness remained essential to national progress, warning that its absence could bring negative consequences for any society.
“Righteousness does indeed exalt a nation and its opposite is a reproach to any people,” Utomi stated.
The political economist also warned politicians and leaders against becoming disconnected from the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, those who ignore the hunger, hardship and growing anger among citizens, while relying on what he described as their own propaganda, could eventually face the consequences of public outrage.
“Those who ignore the anger, hunger in the land and on the streets, and who believe their own propaganda, risk much in the rage of a people,” he said.
Utomi further lamented what he described as the decline of a country once admired by many, saying Nigerians may find it difficult to forget the pain caused by poor leadership.
He stressed that Nigeria was too important for citizens to give up on its future because of what he described as narcissistic politicians.
“Nigeria is far too dear and the dreams of the founding fathers far too important for citizens to surrender in the face of narcissistic politicians,” Utomi added.
His comments have added to the growing reactions trailing the Osun State governorship election, with political observers and citizens continuing to debate the implications of the outcome for Nigeria's wider political landscape.
