The Federal Government has directed tertiary institutions across Nigeria to expel any student found guilty of kidnapping or other related criminal activities after proper investigation.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, gave the order to Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, asking them to take firm action against students involved in criminal acts.
Alausa said heads of institutions must ensure that students who are confirmed to have participated in kidnapping face immediate disciplinary measures, including dismissal from their schools.
The directive was issued as part of the government’s efforts to improve security in tertiary institutions and protect students within and outside campus environments.
The minister also instructed school authorities to improve their internal security systems by gathering more intelligence and working closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies.
He urged tertiary institutions to remain proactive in identifying security threats and creating safer campuses where students can focus on their education without fear.
