A fire outbreak has damaged parts of an Access Bank branch in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, while a separate incident affected a residential building in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The two incidents occurred on Monday and were confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service on Tuesday.
The first fire was reported at about 1:17pm after the state emergency response team received a distress call about a blaze at the Access Bank branch in Dawanau.
Firefighters attached to the Dawanau Fire Station were quickly sent to the scene. On arrival, they found the fire affecting a one-storey building measuring about 100 feet by 80 feet, which houses the bank.
The fire mainly affected a Mikano generator and an electrical transformer within the bank premises. The generator was badly on fire, while the transformer was also affected to a lesser degree.
The firefighters were able to put out the flames and stop them from reaching other parts of the bank building. No report of casualties was given in connection with the incident.
The cause of the bank fire had not been determined as of Tuesday, with officials continuing their investigation to establish what started the blaze.
A separate fire was later reported at about 6:19pm in Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, within Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The emergency call centre received information about the incident and deployed firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Fire Station to the location.
The firefighters found a ground-floor residential building, measuring about 40 feet by 30 feet, already affected by the fire.
The blaze spread to two bedrooms, a parlour and the kitchen before firefighters brought it under control. The operation involved the use of one jet from the Commando 3, Sharada Fire Truck, with support from two additional jets provided by nearby factories.
The fire service also said the cause of the residential building fire was yet to be known, as investigations were still being carried out.
The state fire service urged residents to take fire prevention seriously and remain alert to possible hazards in their homes and workplaces.
Residents were also advised to keep working fire extinguishers available and follow basic fire safety practices to reduce the risk of outbreaks and limit damage when incidents occur.
